Reduce the Chance of Losing You
Join me this week as I break down the ways to maintain the sanity during the holidays. It’s the most wonderful time of the year after all. The kids are home allll the time, family is all up in your space and the pressure of Pinterest perfect decorations and endless scheduled activities are locked and loaded. Moms, this is the time of year when the mayhem that comes with the magic can break you down. Listen up and get some practical tips on how to keep your sh*t in check this year.
Holiday Pressure:
I start out this episode with sharing how I feel about the holidays, that they always seem to come earlier each year and that there’s a lot of pressure, especially as a mom, to create the magic of the season. Not only do you have to worry about your family but you start comparing and worrying about what other people think.
Joy to the World:
First and foremost, if it doesn’t bring you joy you do not need to partake in it. The holidays are already stressful enough we do not need to feel like we have to do it all. You don’t need to go to every party or do the most with your “Elf on the Shelf”.
Expectations vs. Reality:
”You need to not worry about having this picture perfect holiday and instead focus on spending the time with the kids, creating memories instead of creating this like flawless social media aesthetic.” I talk about how we like to decorate our Christmas tree and how it may not be the most aesthetic but it’s meaningful to us.
What’s Important:
”I was so hung up on this idea of it being the perfect holiday that I completely disregarded it. What my family actually liked and what they actually wanted. And I just did what everybody else was doing.” A couple years ago my family and I stopped doing a traditional Thanksgiving dinner because no one actually liked it and decided to start going out to eat. It is so much more enjoyable doing what works for us instead what everyone else is doing.
Ask Your Family What Makes Them Happy:
“Maybe talk to them a little bit about like, what are the things that you really love? Like, what are the things that you absolutely want to have this year? And instead of trying to do all of the things every week and mom, you trying to like create this holiday magic that. They might not even care about that much instead of doing that and just driving yourself absolutely crazy.”
Laugh at Yourself:
”The next thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to laugh at yourself. Things are going to go wrong. You as a woman, especially if you’re a mom, especially if you’re a working mom, are going to have a meltdown at some point.” That’s the way it is and it’s ok to make mistakes!
Schedule Breaks:
“Schedule in some breaks in the next few weeks for yourself so that way you can take a little step back from making all the magic happen and you can actually decompress, de stress, relax a little bit, breathe a little bit, take some time, and then come back and be happy.”
Conclusion:
”As you are heading into the rest of this week and going into the holidays of December, everything that comes with it, keep reminding yourself to focus on what is the most important for you and your family and keep that in mind and schedule some time in for yourself.”
