Surprising Life Lessons From My Sourdough Life
In this episode, I’m sharing why I decided to take on the overwhelming and rewarding process of learning and baking sourdough bread. Spoiler alert, it’s not all about the tasty gem at the end. I dig into the concept of finding joy in the process rather than solely focusing on the end result, thank goodness because I’m truly sucking at the sourdough gig. I encourage listeners to explore activities that bring them true happiness and talk about the importance of rediscovering the joy of experiencing life for the pure pleasure of it, instead of grinding through for the accolades and only focusing on what we can produce or achieve. Join me this week on a little self discovery journey and what I’m learning from this very scientific process of bread baking.
The Sourdough Saga:
I start the episode by diving into my interest in sourdough bread baking. I talk about my journey into sourdough baking, sparked by quarantine and a desire for a fulfilling process.
Seeking Joy in the Process:
Reflecting on a conversation with her therapist, I discuss the importance of finding joy beyond achieving goals. I share insights into my own tendency towards instant gratification and the need for patience in learning new skills like sourdough baking. “The point of this is that I really, really wanted to do something that I knew was gonna require me to learn something new. Something that I had wanted to do for a while that I was interested in, that had was I found intriguing and I wanted to learn how to do it, and I want to learn how to do it well, but I really want it to be about the process and not necessarily about the outcome.”
Rediscovering Joy:
I encourage you all to explore activities solely for the joy of the process, free from the pressure of achieving specific outcomes. “If you don’t have something like that in your life, I want you this week to stop. And find that thing, and you probably aren’t going to find it within the week. It’s gonna, it’s gonna be a process in and of itself.”
Conclusion:
“I think that we all have so much crap in our lives that is about the end result. It’s about the, I need to do this so I can be recognized for this. And it’s about what we’ve accomplished and what we’ve produced as opposed to the journey of it and the joy that we find in the journey.” Try reconnecting with past interests or experiment with new experiences!
